Plus sized models were a concept that originated in the 1970s when clothes for “ the STOUT women '' started selling in North America. Those brands wanted plus sized models for their launch and thus the term came into the known. Recently this term is very much in common as people have broken the taboo of liking just fit girls. Many socializing apps have created famous plus size models as more people are accessible to those apps and such models can portray their skills to a larger set of people which may sometimes catch the attention of big fashion designers and clothing brands that can hire them as full-time models.
Ashely Graham
Ashley is a famous plus size model from Lincoln, Nebraska, USA who was diagnosed with ADD and dyslexia in childhood. She was discovered by I & I magazine while she was shopping in a mall in Omaha.
She has signed deals with Wilhelmina Models, Ford Models, appeared on YM magazine, Vogue magazine, Bust magazine. She has also ramp walked for well-known designers such as Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors, Love Mag, Dolce and Gabbana, H&M, Tommy Hilfiger, Rag, and Bone, etc. She has her own line of lingerie with Additional Elle, a Canadian retailer. She has also c plus sized models. Ashley was the first plus sized model who appeared in the SWIMSUITFORALL retail brand as a model for a new line of swimsuits.
Ashley Graham is the proponent of body positivity and health at every size movement. She has also given TED talks where she talks to her own body from a full-length mirror and appreciates it however it is. She has also done missionary work in South Africa with the Themba Foundation.
Tess Holiday
Tess holiday is another famous plus sized model from Mississippi, USA. Her mother left her father and was shot by her fiancé so she stayed with her grandparents for most of her childhood. She first moved to Seattle, worked as a makeup artist, and then moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream. She starred in a tv series “ HEAVY” and then afterward was signed by a mainstream model agency MILK MODEL MANAGEMENT. She was the first as of her body stature.
Denise Bidot
She is an American-born model who has run twice for brands in New York Fashion Week. Bidot has worked for clients such as Nordstrom, Forever 21, etc. Bidot has been featured on several television shows including nuvoTV's Curvy Girls. She’s famous for the MAMA VS MAMA show. Her movement “ THERE’S NO WRONG WAY TO BE A WOMAN '' got very famous internationally where she wore a two-piece showing her stretch marks for a brand.
Nadia Aboulhosn
Nadia is a fashion blogger who has won
American Apparel’s Model award and apart from modeling, many designers also started calling her for their projects. She has also released her own collection, which was really appreciated by many top people. In 2016, she was seen in April’s cover of Women’s Running Magazine. Her hard work and diversity make her succeed in the fashion industry. In one interview, she explained how she works on fulfilling the gap between ordinary and plus size models.
Iskra Lawrence
Lawrence is a model for Aerie, one of the popular lingerie brands. She was seen making her debut at New York Fashion Week in 2016 almost after 13 years of being in the modeling industry. In 2017, she also walked in L’Oreal’s first fashion show which was held in Paris. She is also a brand ambassador of NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association).
